The idea here is that the student is trying to learn about the structure and function of the cell, so making a connection between what is not known (the cell) and what is known (the structure and function of an office) helps the student to remember the new information. Firstly, ribosomes in the cell reproduce genetic material just as photocopiers reproduce material in the office. Next, the boss of the office directs proceedings as does the nucleus in the cell. Finally, the storage vacuoles are like cupboards because they are responsible for storage. In brief, if you make up analogies to remember key points, you will have a very good chance of remembering the information in the long term.
