The International Student Advisers in Student Services welcome you to the University of Queensland. The most important session any new international student can attend is the Getting Started session. You are advised to also attend other practical workshops on living in Australia. The Guide for International Students is designed to assist you, from planning your arrival in Brisbane through to completing your studies and returning home.
GETTING STARTED
Getting Started sessions are designed to assist you with the smooth transition to campus life. Attend a Getting Started in the first 2 or 3 days after you first arrive. Attendance at one session is compulsory for all new international students at any level of study including transfer students. Please note the Getting Started is ONLY for students starting their formal UQ degree program in the current semester.
At this session you will:
Meet an International Student Advisor
Receive campus and locality maps
Find out about the process of enrolling / registering for classes
Learn how to get your student ID card and your OSHC card
Get information on banking, key university facilities, student discounts on public transportation
After this session you will know the times of important university events and you can then start looking for permanent housing without missing out on vital university information.
Are you completing your studies at UQ soon and thinking about what you need to do to graduate and finalise your studies? Are you thinking about the next stage in your career: where to from here?
If so, consider attending a Graduation and Beyond session. It is designed to save you time by bringing together all the information you may need at this stage of your study. The session will be useful whether you are staying on in Australia for work or further study, returning home or preparing for more global opportunities. For AusAID and Study Abroad and Exchange students this session is called the ‘Return Home Seminar' and you will be emailed about your specific session.
The Graduation and Beyond sessions are held about mid semester and include information on:
Graduation ceremonies & hire or purchase of academic dress
Obtaining University transcripts & shipping baggage home
Careers and Employment assistance & other University supports
Preparation for the transition to life after study – back home or globally
Keeping in touch with the University and UQ Alumni information
Attendance is by invitation in International students' final semester of study
Some Graduation & Beyond sessions are held jointly with your faculty
An email invitation will be sent to your UQ email address.
Please be sure you have the correct ‘graduation semester' in your mySinet Enrolment information.
Please check your UQ emails at least weekly.
Please keep your email mailbox clear.
