First year at university?

  • Are you the first in your family to attend University?
  • Are you from a low socio economic background?
  • Do you identify yourself as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander?
  • Are from a regional or rural area?
  • Are you from a culturally and linguistically diverse background?
  • Do you have a disability?
  • Are you studying in non-traditional areas of study (e.g. women in engineering)?

If any (or some) of the above apply to you then you are a student who is traditionally under- represented in Higher Education, and may need some extra support and help in engaging at university and succeeding at your studies.

The First Year Engagement team is ready to assist you in all inquires regarding first year studies. Furthermore, the team design and deliver special programs for first year students such as: Jumpstart academic preparation program (JSAPP) , Thrive@UQ , and UQ Mentoring , in addition to many other social events. We also run joint Mates@UQ activities.
