Take home exams

Expectations

Much like open book exams, take home exams emphasise understanding, rather than recall or memorization.  Take home exams test your ability to quickly find relevant information and then to understand and analyse concepts, apply knowledge and think critically.

Preparation

  1. Organise time
To ensure that you allocate the time necessary to complete your take home exam, it is a good idea to develop a schedule.  When developing your schedule, ensure to break your task into smaller, manageable pieces.  These pieces could include topic analysis, developing a plan, reading through resources, and drafting an introduction.
  2. Read task requirements
Read task sheet carefully.  Check to see how many references you need or whether the required course readings are enough.
