Frequently Asked Questions

I need to leave my tenancy. What should I do?

This is called breaking your lease. You will need to give your lessor notice of your intention to leave as soon as possible. It can be an expensive process – if you are renting a property managed by a real-estate agent then you may have to pay a break lease fee (usually one or two weeks rent). You are also responsible for paying rent until a replacement tenant can be found. This may mean that you pay rent until the end of the tenancy period you signed up for even if you move out. As a rule, you should never sign a tenancy agreement that is for longer than you can stay at the property.
