IT at UQ

Throughout your time at UQ, you’ll use a range of IT services and systems to support your learning and research.

my.UQ website

my.UQ is the main information resource for students – in fact, you're on the my.UQ website right now!

The website has a catalogue of topics to help you navigate your way through student life and provides links to a whole range of instructions, regulations and forms.

Students use my.UQ almost daily – it’s a destination for finding answers to your questions, checking University communications and managing your day-to-day studies.

my.UQ also provides access to the Dashboard: your personal portal that links to your email, timetable and other study resources.

my.UQ Dashboard

This web portal links to a whole range of personalised resources and communications for students. Through the my.UQ Dashboard you can:

  • access email
  • access mySI-net
  • access Blackboard (Learn.UQ)
  • access My Timetable
  • check your student records
  • browse news and events
  • submit certain forms through 'My Requests'
  • find shortcuts to UQ apps and websites.

You can access the my.UQ Dashboard from the my.UQ homepage.

mySI-net

This is the University’s central administration system. Both staff and students use mySI-net – it acts as the official record for all students.

You can use mySI-net to:

  • enrol in courses
  • update personal details
  • pay fees
  • defer exams
  • view final grades
  • request a change of program.

UQ Library's UQ Systems module includes a video guide to mySI-net. 

You can access mySI-net from the my.UQ Dashboard.

Blackboard

Blackboard is hosted on the Learn.UQ website and is the major learning management system used at UQ. Through Blackboard you can:

  • view lecture notes and recordings
  • view your course profiles
  • read messages from your course coordinator
  • collaborate with other students
  • submit assessment through TurnItIn
  • view assessment results.

Online training modules are available through UQ Library if you need more information about using Blackboard.

Under 18 internet access

If you're under 18 years of age, you have to get your parents' consent to use an internet connection provided by UQ.

We recommend applying before semester starts – it's a quick process.

Student number and username

We use your eight-digit student number to identify who you are in all university matters. When you send any university-related emails, always include your student number.

Your student username begins with a lower case ‘s’ followed by the first seven digits of your student number. Use this username to log in to Starting at UQ, mySI-net, my.UQ, Single sign-on, and campus computers.

You'll receive a student number and username after you accept your offer and activate your account.

Log in to see your student information, including your username and student number.

Student email

When you start at UQ, you’re given an email address. Your official student email address ends with @uqconnect.edu.au

It’s important to check this email account on a daily basis. We’ll use it for all important correspondence about your studies and for urgent information broadcasts.

To activate your student email, click the email link in the my.UQ Dashboard. 

After you activate your student email, you can access your email online or set up an inbox on your mobile device.

Bring your own device (BYOD)

At UQ, having the right tools for your academic journey is crucial. To ensure you have the support and flexibility you need, we recommend bringing your own laptop that meets our requirements.

Free software

As a UQ student, you're entitled to a free copy of Microsoft Office 365, which includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and more. You also have access to other free specialist software (student login required).

Campus wifi and wired internet

There are three wifi services available to students:

1. UQ Wifi is the default wireless network on all campuses. It provides secure access for all standard devices. Use your student username and password to connect.

2. Eduroam is an international internet roaming service. It’s available at universities, research centres and education providers in almost 100 countries around the world. Use the username format username@uq.edu.au to connect.

Students on Herston campus

If you want to connect to the UQ wifi network from your personal device at Herston, you will need to use UQ's VPN (virtual private network).

Wired network

Use your student username to sign in to UQ computers.

Data quotas

There is unlimited data for both your email inbox and monthly internet usage.

Login not working? Word doc being weird? Visit AskUs, located in eight branches of the UQ Library. Expert staff are ready to help with student IT problems, including:

  • internet connections
  • UQ usernames and passwords
  • login
  • Blackboard
  • TurnItIn
  • printing, scanning and copying.

H: drive

All students receive an H: drive (home drive) with 1GB disk space. You can save files to your H: drive and then access them on or off campus.

The easiest way to access your H: drive is through 'myFiles' in the my.UQ Dashboard.
