 Biography

Sean's research spans interests in Australian and Pacific rim archaeology, with an emphasis on coastal Aboriginal archaeology.

Sean Ulm (BA Hons, PhD Qld, MAACAI) has been engaged in the research program of the Unit since 1993. He is mainly involved in supporting the Unit's research, teaching and student support staff and provides advice to Indigenous and non-Indigenous students about research issues. Sean's major research interests include: Australian coastal archaeology; southeast Queensland archaeology; Aboriginal social formations and cultural processes; Indigenous cultural heritage and cultural property rights; and, Preclassic Mayan culture. Results of Sean's recent research have been published in Queensland Archaeological Research, Australian Archaeology, Geoarchaeology, Proceedings of the Royal Society of Queensland and Archaeology in Oceania. Sean holds positions on several professional bodies and editorial committees, including: Editor of Australian Archaeology; Chairperson of the Australian Association of Consulting Archaeologists Inc. Queensland Chapter; Junior Representative for South-East Asia and the Pacific for the World Archaeological Congress; and, Managing Editor of The Australian Journal of Indigenous Education.
