Storage facilities

Soils and Land Resources have built up a sophisticated storage system for handling large volumes of soil samples.

Soil samples are collected and stored in 200 l (44 gallon) drums. Over 250 drums can be stored under cover.

A forklift is used to move the drums. Postgraduate students are encouraged to obtain a forklift license to gain "real" hands on experience.

Samples are processed through the vibrating sieve.

Sub-samples from the 200 l drums are stored in the compactus.

Excellent glasshouse facilities are available to conduct research in Soils and Land Resources.

Glasshouses provide a year round growing environment, essential for conducting research into tropical and sub-tropical soils.

2000 l storage tanks permit research into effluent disposal.

Samples are received and processed at the Soil's compound.
