Project Outline: This project investigates the use of mine waste as a potential plant growth medium for the highly alkaline bauxite residue; red mud.  This will include:
1. Leaching of sand fraction
2. Addition of salts through diffusion and breakdown of zeolite minerals
3. A water balance model of the layered system.
