The Society of Fine Arts website has been updated and given a face lift! Everything you need to know about SoFA, such as the events planned for 2006, is now available for your convenience. Also, information on current exhibitions and upcoming events can be found easily, simply look at the menu found on the left to find the 'Whats on' and 'Upcoming' sections of this website.
This website will be constantly updated so please visit regularly to make the most of this great collection of up-to-date information on the Brisbane art scene. - Unpacking the work of Whistler: the techniques and influences behind the artist's prints - Thursday 7th September @ 1pm at the James and Mary Emelia Mayne Centre, The University of Queensland, University Drive, St Lucia. Curator and writer Anne Kirker and printmaker Suzanne Danaher will give a guided tour of An artist abroad: the prints of James McNeill Whistler, the National Gallery of Australia travelling exhibition showing at the University Art Museum until the 1st of October. The speakers will discuss Whistler’s printing techniques, influences and contribution to realism, Japonisme and modernism. All are welcome. Free Lunch
- 'We need to talk' IMA artist talk series :: SoFA will be attending the series of IMA artist talks and invite SoFA members to join us. The next talk will be given by artist Michael Zavros on Thursday 14th September at 6pm. SoFa members will receive a free beer afterwards.
- 2006 Daphne Mayo Lecture at the James and Mary Emelia Mayne Centre - Professor Roger Benjamin :: Haranguing the nation :: Thursday 21 September @ 6pm Each year, a major world figure will visit Brisbane to speak about the latest trends, influences, and theories in their area of visual culture. This year Professor Roger Benjamin, Director of the Power Institute of the University of Sydney, has been invited to speak. - Art History honours Info Dinner - Friday 22nd September at UQ pizza cafe (TBC) :: Join lecturer Rex Butler, current and graduate art history honours students for a pizza dinner and learn all you need to know about studying honurs in art history. Pizza is free for SoFa members and $3 for non-members. Membership will be $4 (including arts card) for the day. RSVP is essential for dinner bookings.
