We are delighted to welcome
the Queensland minister for climate change & sustainability - the honourable Kate Jones, as the patron of SMART.

12th Feb 2009

Thankyou for everyone's awesome entries into the 2008 ENVM2522 Freedom / Billabong Competition.

Congratulations to Paul Schmidt who won the award for "best overall academic performance". Paul will receive a $500 gift voucher from the kind folks at Billabong!

It was a close finish for the Freedom Fuels prize for the "best case study" and as such we awarded two students a $250 fuel voucher each. Congratulations to Jenny Burley and William Toe, and thanks to our SMART partner Freedom Fuels.

THE SMART ADVANTAGE
SMART courses make a recognised, informative, practical and relevant addition to any program. We incorporate regular field trips,  guest lectures, competitions, and, practical exercises (such as an emissions trading simulation) into our courses. We aim to keep course information current and cutting-edge through our consultation with SMART industry partners. You will also be presented with the opportunity to network with key leaders in this space.

FURTHER STUDY OPPORTUNITIES

UQ has a working relationship with the Australian Institute of Sustainable Enterprise Management (AISEM) and is in the process of aligning UQ courses with their certification criteria. We are currently developing an agreement whereby students who complete UQ courses will receive an Advanced Diploma in Business Management from AISEM. We also plan to offer this option to students outside the university e.g. to workplaces in an intensive course format. As a student of the Bachelor of Business Degree (Sustainable Enterprise Management) or a student enrolled in any SMART elective you may be eligible to participate in an internship arranged with one of SMART`s partners, for example; Billabong, ARUP, QR, Freedoms Fuels and RACQ. Internships provide a vital link between theory and knowledge learnt at UQ and real world application within industry.
