Announcing The 2006 ALS Conference

The 2006 ALS Conference part of LINQ2006, a series of linguistic
and applied linguistics meetings to be held at the University of
Queensland in July 2006. LINQ2006 includes: ALAA06, ALI, ALS, and PacSLRF
conferences.

Call for Papers on any area of linguistic research
All Members of the Australian Linguistic Society wishing to present a twenty minute paper followed by 10 minutes discussion at the 2006 ALS Meeting are invited to submit a one page abstract containing the following information:
- Name(s) of author(s): (to be removed for refereeing purposes)
- Institutional Affiliation(s) (if any):
- email address:
- Title of proposed paper:
- Keywords:
- Abstract of proposed paper including list of references where applicable.
All submissions will be anonymously refereed.
Only members of ALS may present a paper at the annual conference.

Deadline for submission of abstracts is 13th March 2006. The abstract must be in .pdf and .rtf formats. Abstracts should be submitted electronically as an email attachment with filename:YOURNAME_ALS2006. In the email Subject Line please write "NAME ALS abstract" where NAME is your family or surname.

CRLC Workshop 2006: Call for papers
The Centre for Research on Language Change (CRLC)in association with Manchester University will be holding a workshop at the Australian Linguistic Society conference, on Sunday 9th July at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia.
The theme of the workshop is Grammatical change: theory and description.

ALS Workshop on Complex predication and the Coverb Construction
Special session on coverbs and complex predicates in ALS: call for papers
Due to popular demand, papers are invited for topics on the theme of complex predication for a special session of the ALS conference. We would particularly welcome papers on coverbs and serial verbs, with special attention paid to the limits of productivity in the system. Abstracts should be submitted in the usual way to the ALS conference committee.

Registration for ALS-06 is done on-line. You can use Visa, Bankcard or Mastercard credit cards to pay online via a secure server and receive a paid GST Tax invoice as confirmation of payment. Alternately, you can print the Tax Invoice and forward it with your cheque, bank cheque, money order or credit card details by mail. However, we encourage you to use the online registration as this is the most secure method of payment. Overseas bank cheques must be in AUD$ Australian Dollars, drawn on an Australian Bank and free of all charges. Cheques, bank cheques and money orders must be made payable to "The University of Queensland".

Brisbane is a city of around 1.2 million inhabitants on
Australia's east coast. It is the capital of the state of
Queensland and it enjoys a sub-tropical climate. The beautiful
beaches and rainforest hinterland of the Gold Coast and the
Sunshine Coast are about a one hour drive from the city.

Proceedings of the 2006 Australian Linguistics Society Conference
All presenters of a paper at the ALS2006 conference are invited to submit their paper for inclusion in the Conference Proceedings to be edited by Mary Laughren & Ilana Mushin. These Proceedings will be hosted by ePrintsUQ
All papers submitted for inclusion in the Proceedings of the ALS2006 conference will be anonymously refereed by a minimum of two referees who will make recommendations to the Editors on papers to be published (with or without revisions) or rejected. The final decision will be with the Editors.
Submission Guidelines:
Papers must retain the same title and reflect the content and the length of the paper delivered at the conference.
The paper proper should be preceded by a short abstract (no more than 12 lines) and a list of keywords. (See http://www.arts.monash.edu.au/ling/als/ for examples from ALS2005 Proceedings.)
Papers should be approximately 2,000-5,000 words in length. They should be written as continuous expository narrative in an article style - not as lists of points as on a typical talk handout or a PowerPoint presentation. Since the papers are to be published in fully refereed academic on-line proceedings, the style and structure of the text should be relatively formal, with numbered sections and subsections.
Style
The style to be used should be the same as that used in current issues of the Australian Journal of Linguistics (a variant of the 'Harvard' (5/6) style). Spelling can vary according to national usage, but should be internally consistent. Papers should be thoroughly checked and proof-read before submission, both by the author and a critical editorial friend.
Footnotes (and not Endnotes) are to be used and consecutively numbered.
Papers should be double spaced (including footnotes).
Font to be used is Times New Roman size 12 in the text and size 10 in the footnotes.
Margins should be 2.5cm on all four sides of A4 paper size.
File Format and Title: All papers must be submitted in camera-ready format. It is recommended that your paper be saved and sent in Rich Text Format with the following pattern of filename:
- AuthorSurname-AuthorInitials-ALS2006.rtf
For publication the paper will be converted to PDF.

The ALS Conference dinner will be held at the Kapsali Tavern restaurant at South Bank on Saturday July 8 starting at 7:15.
