Working with the community
Staff at the School are actively engaged in working with the community in a variety of ways.
Ongoing community involvement:
- We are season partners of the Queensland Media Club
- We sponsor the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Queensland Media Awards
- We are part of the University of Queensland’s support for the Brisbane Writers Festival
Recent examples include:
- Running a symposium on the 20th anniversary of the Fitzgerald inquiry with support from industry partner, Brisbanetimes.com.au.
- Launching JACradio under the stewardship of Dr John Harrison and Anthony Frangi.
- School visits – staff are available to talk to student groups and welcome inquiries from principals of secondary schools and other organisations.
- School competitions – in March the inaugural Citizen Journalism short video competition was launched in conjunction with Brisbanetimes.com.au. Twelve secondary schools entered with three winners and two highly commended entries being awarded.
