 Teaching and learning support


The Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation (ITaLI) was established in late 2014 and is headed by a Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) [PVC (T&L)]. ITaLI is a single service-focused unit, with functional areas that align with UQ’s teaching and learning priorities, and provides practical solutions for teaching and learning, supports the role of blue sky innovation as well as the embedding of new technologies into teaching and learning practice, drives teaching excellence, undertakes research that informs practice and plays a role in UQ’s contributions and responses to higher education policy.

The key functional areas are as follows:

  • Higher Education Group: responsible for dissemination of teaching and learning best practices; School/Faculty professional development; developing and supporting university quality assurances processes; support for the integration of digital tools in learning activities; support for grants, awards and educational research; policy analysis and strategic advice.
  • Learning Analytics and Evaluations Group: responsible for providing teacher and course evaluation services; and facilitating the collection, analysis, visualisation and interpretation of learning data to improve learning and teaching practice.
  • UQx: responsible for exploring best practices in teaching and learning through technology-enabled methods and transfer this back to the campus; providing access to emerging technologies and collaborative insights from edX consortium members; developing online courses (MOOCs - Massive Open Online Courses) and learning experiences (SPOCs - Small Private Online Courses).
  • Administration Group: responsible for supporting of the ITaLI’s operations through management of financial, administrative, human and physical resources.
