Faculty Award for Tutors

The Awards:
A maximum of 3 awards, each to the value of $1000 will be made. The award money will be transferred into the relevant School’s account. Tutors can use the award money for academic purposes such as conference fees, conference travel, academic books and equipment.
Application Procedure:
Send completed application forms, signed by the Head of School, together with supporting documentation to Tanya Negerevich (t.negerevich@uq.edu.au), Faculty Learning Support Officer in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, by 5pm on Monday, 12 September 2011.
Required:
- Reflective Essay (max. 1-page, single spaced, 12 point font) outlining your contribution to teaching and learning in one or more courses and an account of how your teaching enhances student learning outcomes.
- No more than half a page on each of the following Selection Criteria (max. 2.5 pages, single spaced, 12 point font), showing how you ensure:
> provision of an optimal teaching and learning environment which recognises diverse student needs
> effective planning for tutorials and clarification of expectations for student learning
> promotion of learner engagement in innovative and creative ways to develop the graduate attributes (see HUPP 3.20.5) http://www.uq.edu.au/hupp/index.html?page=25095&pid=25075
> provision of quality feedback to students in class and on assessment tasks; and
> evaluation of your teaching practices and use of the evaluations to refine your teaching practices.
- 1 page summary of TEVALs or other evaluations providing assessment of your overall effectiveness as a University tutor
- Confidential reference (max. 1 page, single spaced, 12 point font) from the academic or course coordinator for whom you tutor. This letter, which can be sent independently, should comment on the:
> role of the tutor as an intermediary between the students and the course coordinator;
> extent to which the tutor demonstrates knowledge of the course objectives and demonstrates ability to facilitate the attainment of these objectives through the tutorial experience;
> and capacity of the tutor for creativity and innovation in relation to teaching and learning (including design, delivery and evaluation)
Optional:
- Peer review or reference (max. 1 page)
- Copies of positive communications (e.g. emails, qualitative comments on TEVALs) (max. 2 pages)
- Additional information will not be considered
