Current Research on RHD Supervision: USDC Symposium

RHD Supervision is a complex and rewarding form of teaching and learning that has only been systematically investigated since the mid-1990s. Since then, cutting edge research has begun to explore the challenges presented by this unique pedagogical relationship and has offered a range of strategies for enhancing its effectiveness.

As part of the University Staff Development Committee (USDC) program, the Teaching and Educational Development Institute (TEDI) presents an all-day symposium on Current Research on RHD Supervision. Featuring some of the latest quantitative and qualitative research by key international and national researchers, this symposium explores supervision in a wide range of science, social science and humanities disciplines.

The symposium will be held from 9.00am-4.00pm on Friday 22 October in the seminar room of International House (Rock St). Topics will include indigenous (Māori) supervision, intercultural supervision in Engineering, conceptions of supervision in Information Technology, Industry supervision, and doctoral graduate outcomes in Science, Engineering & Technology. Download the program outline.

Introduction to Multilevel Modelling using STATA - Workshop No. 5

For those who want to learn more about multilevel modelling using STATA this is a good opportunity. This workshop is for academic staff and higher degree research students in the Faculty of SBS and the ISSR with no strong background in statistics.

However, it is assumed that traditional linear models, such as regression and analysis of variance, are well understood. In the workshop some of the traditional ways of analysing grouped data that consists of two levels, an individual one and a contextual one, will be discussed. The multilevel model that will be presented in the workshop is a random coefficient model, with fixed variables and random coefficients.

The course is practical, with sessions conducted in a computer lab, and thus basic familiarity with STATA is useful. The session is being held 3-4 November, 10.00am-4.00pm in Computer Lab 6, Room 206, GPN 3 (#39A). Please contact Cassandra Mellor at c.mellor@uq.edu.au to register for this workshop.
