The SBS Faculty is at the cutting edge of national and international research into the social and behavioural sciences.

We have outstanding researchers who have innovative approaches to research and research training and an unwavering commitment to excellence. We are proud to be one of Australia's leading social and behavioural science groups.

The Faculty is uniquely positioned in Australia because of the breadth of coverage of the social and behavioural sciences. Centres within our Schools embrace research ranging from cognitive neuroscience, to social policy, to language and communication. In addition, we have a special relationship with the University’s Institute for Social Science Research, which houses research centres in key areas of applied social science research, such as the Centre of Execellence for Behaviour Support.

This diversity allows us to have a range of multidisciplinary or highly focused research teams that connect with other Faculties and Institutes at UQ, and with other universities to conduct basic and applied research on almost the entire field of social and behavioural sciences. Many of these research teams have strong links with the health sciences, biological sciences, computer science, agriculture, and social sciences and humanities disciplines.  We are also committed to educating the next generation of researchers in our fields, and we have active PhD and Master of Philosophy programs in all our Schools.

Our Research Strengths - all with a critical mass of senior researchers with strong international reputations as research leaders – span across a diverse range of areas including social psychology and development; clinical psychology; human cognition and performance; social and public policy; and educational, social, and behavioural aspects of health and disability.

Our Research Priority Areas include ageing; international and peace studies; interpersonal and mediated communication; social aspects of the natural environment and resource management; advanced research methods in the social, educational and behavioural sciences; youth, families and social institutions; and literacy and multiliteracies.

The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences welcomes the opportunity to pursue new and continuing research agreements with industry. For more information about opportunities, please email research@sbs.uq.edu.au.
