Welcome to the website of the School of Biomedical Sciences at The University of Queensland.

Our School is creating world-class biomedical scientists through excellence in research and teaching. We achieve this by attracting and nurturing the best students, the finest educators, dedicated support staff, and internationally-competitive researchers.

Learning

Each year, our academics teach thousands of undergraduate and higher degree students enrolled in thirteen programs across three faculties at The University of Queensland.

In 2011, the first student cohort in our flagship Bachelor of Biomedical Science program will graduate with a degree designed to equip them with analytical and practical skills essential for a career in research. The following year, graduates of our Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety Science program will enter a profession committed to enhancing the lives of workers in many and varied industries around the world.

Discovery

Our School is a distinguished centre for research in anatomy, cell biology, developmental biology, neuroscience, pharmacology, and physiology.

The breadth of this research provides a strong foundation for multi-disciplinary research and, as a result, our staff members collaborate with many research institutes locally, nationally and internationally.

Engagement

Our School has a long history of stakeholder engagement which includes student outreach programs, professional development courses for health and allied health professionals, and a public lecture series.

In May each year, a thanksgiving service for participants in the School’s Body Donor Program is attended by almost 1,000 members of the University and wider community.

Through the efforts of our outstanding academic and professional staff, we are continually identifying ways to strengthen our resources, explore niche areas, and focus on our research training. We value curiosity, creativity, commitment, and collegiality.

I invite visitors to this website to explore these pages and discover what we are doing to create a School that is admired locally, nationally and internationally for its efforts in the areas of learning, discovery, and engagement.
