Research within the Faculty is organized around 13 themes which reflect its diversity and depth of research strengths. We know that the quality of our staff is the key factor in attracting outstanding students.

Research excellence is a major criterion for appointment of academic staff to the University and the majority of these staff have experience from a wide-range of world class research institutions. This leads to a vibrant and internationally-oriented research culture providing numerous opportunities for students.

Within each of the research themes, projects may be found which emphasize either fundamental research or the more applied aspects of research, particularly in biotechnology. Many staff members have highlighted their biotechnology-oriented projects on their web pages.
