The Gross Anatomy Facility

The Gross Anatomy Facility is a modern scientific teaching unit, catering to almost 4000 anatomy students annually. This Facility also provides flexible space for the display and practice of state-of-the-art skills in medical anatomy.
It comprises a large dissection laboratory, an embalming suite, prosectory laboratory, cadaver storage area and several private tutorial rooms. Our Facility is an authorised School of Anatomy governed under the Transplantation and Anatomy Act 1979 which requires that all our donors are treated with the utmost dignity.

Anatomical Workshops


The Gross Anatomy Facility is available for anatomical and surgical skills workshops in order to further enhance and support the education of medical and allied health professionals. We are able to provide you with an array of specimens within a contemporary clinical laboratory to trial novel and innovative or existing surgical procedures. Our external users encompass surgeons, medical specialists, other institutional lecturers and paramedical groups.

Facilities

• Available for use 7 days a week
• Anatomy Museum
• Large air-conditioned dedicated laboratory capable of holding up to 300 people
• Lecture theatres (capacity 120)
• Tutorial rooms (capacity 25) with X-ray viewing equipment
• Lunch room (capacity 30)
• General purpose rooms with/without computer access (capacity 1-300)

• Skilled technical support staff
• Wet and plastinated specimens and plastic models for non-invasive examination
• Cadaveric material for invasive dissection
• Dissecting tables and basic dissecting tools
• Authorised to house radiation equipment
• Audiovisual equipment
