Student and Academic Administration (SAA) is the largest of the three directorates in the Student and Administrative Services Division at UQ. It is responsible for the management and delivery of student-focused support and administrative services that relate to all aspects of students’ engagement with their studies, ranging from prospective student enquiries, through to graduation. To manage and deliver these services effectively within the devolved structure UQ adopted since 2001, SASD liaises and collaborates regularly with all faculties and schools as well as other divisions and directorates within Central Administration. In addition to its student-focused role, SASD is responsible for supporting the University’s governance function including the development and dissemination of academic policy. SAA is comprised of three sections: Student Administration, Academic Administration, and SI-net Projects.
Academic Administration provides administrative support for teaching and learning activities through a range of services that support academic decision-making processes, information provision and dissemination. It encompasses two sub-units – the Academic Programs Unit and the Academic Policy Unit.
-

-
provision of course and class timetables information (approximately 7,000 classes are scheduled in each of Semester 1 and 2 and 400 in Summer Semester);
-
management of centrally controlled teaching space (159 rooms across three campuses);
-
provision of administrative support for space management and the University’s Asset Management Plan (AMP);
-
Australian Graduate Survey/Course Experience Questionnaires (administered to approximately 8600 graduates annually);
-
administration of student discipline and misconduct processes including hearings of the Disciplinary Board and Discipline Appeals Committee.
Academic Facilities and Program Information Unit are located in the Academic Programs Unit.
The Academic Policy Unit provides a range of services that support the academic decision-making and policy development/implementation processes. These include:
-

-
maintenance of the University’s organisational and committee databases; and
-
provision of administrative assistance for reviews of units (e.g. school, centre, institute, administrative units) and the teaching awards (internal and external).
