STUDENT CENTRE, IPSWICH
 
Following the transfer of the Campus Manager and his office staff from SASD to the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Ipswich, the Ipswich Student Centre staff will now report directly to the Student Centre Manager at St. Lucia.
 
On-site supervision of the service delivery from the counter located in Building 8 will be the responsibility of Ms Sue Hutley from the Ipswich Library.
 
STUDENT CENTRE RELOCATION

The St Lucia Student Centre will be undergoing major renovations from 29 November 2004 until 14 February 2005 to upgrade the services currently available to students from the Centre.  Student Centre staff will continue to be available from the Traffic office, ground floor, level 1, JD Story.  During the building phase access to the Student Centre services from the Traffic Office will be from the bus stop side of the building at level 1.  Information on the upgraded services will be forwarded to all students before the commencement of semester 1, 2005.

 

The Student Centre team would like to apologise for inconvenience caused during this time and look forward to offering improved service in 2005. 

 

Please note that Graduation tickets will be available from the UQ Centre, building 27A from 9:30am to 4:30pm weekdays, and up until the time of the ceremony for graduations on that day.

GRADUATIONS

 
As mentioned above, all December graduation tickets for St Lucia graduands will be distributed through the UQ Centres for the first time.  Tickets will be available from Ipswich, Gatton and St Lucia campuses from 29 November 9:30am - 4:30pm daily.
 

HIGHER EDUCATION SUPPORT ACT (HESA) REFORMS UPDATE

Going to Uni - Information for students about higher education in Australia
The Department of Education, Training and Science have launched the Going to Uni website which can be accessed at: http://www.goingtouni.gov.au/  This site provides information for current and prospective undergraduate and postgraduate university students on:

    • Fees, Loans and Scholarships;
    • Courses (Programs) offered by Australian higher education providers;
    • Access point for students to log into their student assistance record using their Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN);
    • Other special support programmes funded by the Commonwealth for students.

This site also allows students to access a range of information on all Australian higher education providers including a brief description and information or links on the following:

Ø       overview of the provider

Ø       address & contact details

Ø       locations of campuses

Ø       provider's course and online handbook

Ø       academic structure

Ø       information for enrolling students, including links to the relevant tertiary admissions centres (TACs)

Ø       schedule of fees

Ø       provider's scholarship information

Higher Education Reforms and Orientation Activities
A brief power point which will contain key messages on the higher education reforms, terminology and the finalisation of enrolment will be prepared.  The intention is to send this to
key sections of the University involved in student advising and administration for inclusion in enrolment and orientation presentations by staff. If you are involved in a presentation for students and would like to include some information on the reforms please email Anne Gilmore a.gilmore@admin.uq.edu.au with details on when it will be held and if the focus is domestic or international undergraduates, postgraduates or all students.

NEW HUPP WEBSITE

By the close of business on Friday 10 December, the new HUPP site will be up and running.

The new format is based on the University's Online Content Management system, using templates, and is more user-friendly in its format.  You can access it by the same URL as for the old HUPP site.

To help with the transition to the new system, Contact Officer's should review the policies that they are responsible for, and if there are any problems, such as links not working or typos, please advise Tegan White (t.white@admin.uq.edu.au) extension 53361.

CENTRALLY CONTROLLED TEACHING SPACE REFURBISHMENT AND MAINTENANCE

Work has commenced on the refurbishment of the Ethel Raybould Lecture Theatres and teaching room S201 in the Hawken Engineering Building.  The refurbishments of the lecture threatres will include upgrading of AV requirements, replace seats, upgrade air-conditioning, replace carpet and painting.  The surrounding foyer area and toilets are also being refurbished.  The refurbishment work to be undertaken in other centrally controlled lecture threatres in the Forgan-Smith Building, Computer Science Building and Richards Buildings will commence in early 2005.

A program of minor maintenance work has been scheduled in other centrally controlled lecture theatres over the summer break.  Property and Facilities staff will be visiting all centrally controlled teaching staff to fix any minor fault in the rooms.

DRAFT 1/2005 CLASS TIMETABLE

The draft 1/2005 class timetable for Schools to check details is now available from MySi-Net.  It is intended to release the 1/2005 timetable to students on 4 January 2005.  Schools are encouraged to check the draft timetable and forward by email any changes as soon as possible.  Changes should be forwarded to Betsy Erickson (St Lucia Campus)  b.erickson@admin.uq.edu.au or Michelle Southey (Ipswich and Gatton Campus) m.southey@admin.uq.edu.au.

AUSSIE INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP PROGRAM

 

Preparations continue for the James Morrison Concert to be promoted by the Aussie International Friendship Program in conjunction with Chaplaincy Services.  The event is planned for Monday 9 May 2005 at the UQ Centre.  Details on the purchase of tickets will be released at the start of semester when students have returned for 2005.

 

CHRISTMAS BREAK-UP BREKKIE

 

A reminder for the Christmas Brekkie for staff of the Student and Administrative Services Division to be held on Thursday 23 December at 7:30am at Genies Cafe.  Tickets are $12.50 and can be collected from Gaylene in room 639, JD Story Building.
