Right to Information Right to Information is the Queensland Government's approach to giving the community greater access to information. The Queensland Government has made a commitment to provide access to information held by the Government, unless on balance it is contrary to the public interest to provide that information. New legislation replacing the Freedom of Information Act 1992 came into effect on 1 July 2009, namely;
Right to Information aims to make more information available, provide equal access to information across all sectors of the community, and provide appropriate protection for individuals' privacy.

Information Privacy Queensland's privacy regime is set out in the Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act). Under this Act, the University is legally required to comply with the Information Privacy Principles (IPPs), which are set out in Schedule 3 to the Act. The IPPs cover the collection, storage, use, disclosure and access obligations of agencies. Under the IP Act, agencies are required to take reasonable steps to protect the personal information they hold from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
