Australian Bureau of Statistics Higher Education Survey of Research and Experimental Development
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) collects Research and Experimental Development (R&D) data from business enterprises, higher education institutions, government and private non-profit organisations. The all-sector aggregates which result from the surveys are the only comprehensive data on Australia's R&D effort and enable the nature and distribution of Australia's R&D activity to be monitored by government policy analysts and advisers to government, businesses and economists. The Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations (DEEWR), the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science & Research (DIISR), for example, use the data for a variety of purposes, many of which have an important impact upon policy formulation and the allocation of funds and priorities for research and development.
The scope of the collection is all research carried out by universities and their controlled entities in reference period irrespective of the source of funding.
The reference period for the next survey will be the year 1st January 2010 to 31st December 2010.
Datasheets will be sent to nominated School/Centre/Institute contacts in 2011.
