About the Scheme
The ARC Linkage Projects scheme supports collaborative research and development projects between higher education organisations and other organisations, including within industry, to enable the application of advanced knowledge to problems. Typically, research projects funded under the scheme involve risk. Proposals must involve a Partner Organisation from outside the higher education sector. The Partner Organisation must make a significant contribution in cash and/or in kind, to the project as per the requirements outlined in the Funding Rules.
This scheme offers funding for postgraduate awards and fellowships to provide industry-oriented research training and enable postdoctoral researchers to pursue internationally competitive research opportunities in collaboration with industry.
The objectives of Linkage Projects are to:
- encourage and develop long-term strategic research alliances between higher education organisations and other organisations, including within industry and end-users, in order to apply advanced knowledge to problems and/or to provide opportunities to obtain national economic, social or cultural benefits;
- support collaborative research on issues of benefit to rural and regional communities;
- enhance the scale and focus of research in National Research Priorities;
- foster opportunities for postdoctoral researchers to pursue internationally competitive research in collaboration with organisations outside the higher education sector, targeting those who have demonstrated a clear commitment to high-quality research;
- provide outcome-oriented research training to prepare high-calibre postgraduate research students; and
- produce a national pool of world-class researchers to meet the needs of the broader Australian innovation system.

Step 5A - Submit application on RMS
Once all components of the Proposal are completed and saved, return to the "Draft Proposal Summary Page". Before electronically submitting to RRTD, the Project Leader should:
- Review all components to ensure the information to be submitted is complete, and save each page once more (this is to ensure that all information is captured in the PDF);
- Ensure all components are complete and valid (indicated by a green tick on the "Draft Proposal Summary Page");
- Generate a PDF (whole Proposal document PDF). This is found near the top of the "Draft Proposal Summary Page". This may take a minute or two. An email is sent to you once the PDF is available for viewing in RMS.
- To submit to RRTD please select "Submit Proposal to Research Office" at the bottom of the page. Note that only the Proposal "owner" can submit a Proposal to RRTD.
Step 5B – Complete and submit the following to RRTD
Complete the UQ-ARC Linkage Projects Coversheet. This document will be submitted to RRTD automatically by email and must be submitted by the lead CI. This ensures that RRTD is aware that you have submitted the application in RMS and it is ready for review.
N.B. RRTD does not require a hard copy of the application, however it must be submitted to the Research Office in RMS and completed the UQ-ARC Linkage Projects Coversheet by the internal deadline outlined above.
You may also choose to submit the ARC Certification proforma and Request not at Assess forms at this stage, however these can be submitted when you submit your final version following review.
Step 6 - Final Submission
Following an initial review of your application you will be provided with feedback regarding eligibility and/or compliance issues that require correction. RRTD will request resubmission of your finalised application, generally within 3 days of feedback being provided.
