Inclusion and use of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
SOPs may be used to complement an AEC application form. Any SOP must be cited in the relevant section and must include its number and title, for example:

NOTE: ANY variation in technique from an SOP as written must be stated and the variation described in full.
Categories of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
If an SOP cannot be located in the category nominated, please check all other categories.
Animal Handling Techniques (AHT)
Includes all approved SOP's which describe many of the basic techniques commonly used in research, eg: "Tail tipping in mice".
Animal Handling Procedures (AHP)
Includes all approved SOP's which contain a level of complexity and are used routinely as experimental procedures, eg: "Intracerebroventricular Cannula Implantation in the Rat".
Animal Teaching Techniques (ATT)
Includes all approved SOP's which describe commonly used techniques in teaching/husbandry, eg: "Artifical insemination in cattle".
Animal Surgical Techniques (AST)
Includes all approved SOP's which describe the minimum acceptable standards for conducting surgery on laboratory animals, eg: "Clean Technique for Laboratory Animal Surgery".
