Bibliographic Data Collection

The Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC)

Annually, the Research and Research Training Division (RRTD) collects the bibliographic details of any research publications produced by UQ staff and students in the previous academic year. Data from the collection is reported to the Commonwealth Department of Innovation, Industry, Science & Research (DIISR) and is used internally by UQ to determine the allocation of Federal government money to the Faculties and Institutes.

The four categories of publications we report to DIISR are books, book chapters, peer reviewed journal articles and peer reviewed fully published conference papers.

Who Submits the Publications Data?

RRTD organises and oversees the collection but it is the responsibility of each school, centre and institute to collate their publications, record the details in eSpace and submit the required evidence to us. The school, centre or institute of the first named UQ author on a publication is responsible for the entry and submission of the data.

This Year or Next Year?

It is important to be aware that it is the date that a publication was first made available to its intended audience that determines which HERD Collection year it is claimed in. For example, an article that was released online in November 2009 must be claimed in the 2010 HERDC even though its print publication date may be in 2010.

When are the HERDC deadlines

Electronic eSpace Submission: Friday 16 April 2010
Hardcopy Evidence Submission: Friday 23 April 2010
