The University of Queensland is a leading research university, committed to ensuring the humane care and use of animals in research and teaching. The AWU is committed to assisting the University in maintaining the highest standards of ethical decision-making, animal husbandry and care as a contribution to achieving high quality research. RoleThe Animal Welfare Unit provides administrative support and co-ordinates the activities of the Universities 6 Animal Ethics Committees. Its key operational areas are:
Mission StatementTo fulfil the obligations of the University of Queensland on all legal and welfare matters pertaining to the use of animals for research and teaching within the scope of the Animal Care and Protection Act Qld (2002) and the Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes (7th edition 2004).
