About the Scheme
The NHMRC Enabling Grants scheme is designed to underpin the current NHMRC funding system by strengthening the research base in particular areas. It is intended to assist Australian researchers to continue high quality, world-class research by providing support for specific facilities and/or activities to enhance the national health and medical research effort.
The NHMRC is undertaking a Review of current Enabling Grant holders to determine the funding arrangements at the end of the funding periods. The Enabling Grant support scheme will continue for national health and medical research facilities for which no other form of support is available. We will also continue our policy of seeking to support facilities in partnerships with other bodies and with research institutions.
The NHMRC is also redesigning the Enabling Grants Scheme to provide a better framework for funding facilities and/or resources that underpin health and medical research. Further information on the redesigned scheme is expected later in 2009.
