About the Scheme
The Australia Fellowship is an award to support the salary and research of outstanding researchers with a vision to expand the scale and scope of Australian health and medical research. Australia Fellows will be conducting innovative research at the highest international levels.The aims of the scheme are to:
- support the most outstanding and creative health and/or medical researchers across the range of disciplines in biomedical, clinical, health services and public health research;
- foster the expansion of the scale and scope of Australian health and medical research including innovative research that is transformative and with high impact potential;
- build excellent research teams in Australia, foster mentoring and collaboration and provide opportunities for talented researchers; and
- undertake research that is of major importance, potentially high impact and of significant benefit to Australians.
Who Should Apply?
Successful applicants will demonstrate world class standards of achievement in research and research translation and expertise, vision and plans to increase Australia’s capacity in high quality health and medical research.
NHMRC encourages researchers with an outstanding track record relative to their field and opportunity, especially in innovative research that is transformative and with high impact potential. The NHMRC particularly encourages applications from health and medical researchers, whose record of research achievement and vision for the Fellowship, contribute to the translation of discoveries into improvements in clinical care, health services and public health.
Closing Dates
UQ's application process is by nominating to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) - refer to details below.
- UQ due date for nominations (international applicants only): 9 July 2010.
- NHMRC EOIs for selected nominees close externally: 30 July 2010.
- Note that international candidates are defined by NHMRC as holding at least a 50% appointment at a non-Australian institution during the 12 months prior to submission of the EOI.
- The EOI process for Australian nominees is now closed.
How to Apply: Step by step instructions for UQ applicants
Potential applicants may discuss their interest in nominating with the Faculty Associate Dean (Research) or Institute Research Director in the first instance. Nominations should be forwarded from the Faculty/Institute to the Research & Innovation Division (R&ID) by no later than 9 July 2010.
Nominations should be made in electronic format and include:
- an up-to-date CV of the nominee (ten pages maximum); an
- a brief supporting statement from the Faculty Associate Dean Research or Institute Director as to the strength of the candidate and the alignment of their research with existing or emerging UQ research strengths.
Selected international nominees will be invited by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) to proceed with an EOI submission to the NHMRC.
