Overview
The Group of Eight (Go8) has opened applications for its 2011 European Fellowships. As a member of this scheme, The University of Queensland (UQ) is offering one Fellowship for 2012 to an early career researcher from Europe.
The Fellowships are open to citizens of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Russia and Croatia. The purpose of the scheme is to facilitate further research collaboration between Australia and Europe with the intention that Fellows will continue to collaborate with their Australian research partners when they return to their home institutions.

$2,000 will be provided to the host UQ School/Faculty/Department to meet incidental expenses; and
-
$18,000 will be provided directly to the fellow for travel, including travel within Australia, and living expenses.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
- have completed a PhD less than five years prior to application for the Fellowship;
- are under 40 years of age at the time of application;
- are a citizen of one of the designated countries listed above;
- reside in one of the designated countries listed above (it need not be the same country as your citizenship);
- have been employed (minimum half-time appointment) for at least six months prior to application by a university or research organisation (public or private) in one of the designated countries;
- have sufficient competency in English to be able to adequately communicate with researchers in their host university;
- are eligible to obtain an Australian Visiting Academic Visa (subclass 419) or equivalent Australian visa.
Closing Date
Applications must be submitted to the UQ Research and Innovation Division (R&ID) by 21 October 2011.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted using the Application Pack available from the Go8 website. Applicants must only submit one application (ie. an application to one Go8 university) per year. If you are submitting an application to UQ, you must not submit an additional application to another Go8 university.
Resources for locating an appropriate supervisor at UQ
All applicants must have the support of a prospective supervisor at UQ in order to undertake the fellowship. Applications must be supported and submitted to the Research and Innovation Division, The University of Queensland by the prospective Go8 academic supervisor on behalf of the applicant.
