 ARC Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF)

About the Scheme

The Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) scheme fosters collaboration through its support of the cooperative use of national and international research facilities.

Essentially, the scheme provides funding for large-scale cooperative initiatives so that expensive infrastructure, equipment and facilities can be shared by researchers in partnered organisations. However, the ARC may fund single-organisation proposals in some circumstances.

Under the scheme, applicants may seek funding for:

  • infrastructure, equipment and facility purchases, construction and installation;
  • major computing/data facilities, animal houses, herbaria and experimental farms;
  • salaries directly associated with creating and installing infrastructure, equipment or facilities;
  • consortium membership costs, travel to the facility and secretariat costs in the case of Australia's participation in the use of significant international-scale research facilities;
  • library and research information infrastructure.

UQ Application Guide (updated 9 March 2012) - UQ Login Required

2. UQ Collaborating bids - Certification form for Organisations submission

Each Administering Organisation must certify through the ARC online application system that they have obtained the written agreement of all parties necessary to allow the proposed project to proceed. This includes written agreement from the institution to provide the cash and in-kind contributions as outlined in the Proposal. The ARC reserves the right to seek the evidence from the Administering Organisation to support the certification of Proposals.

The Administering Organisation may use the proforma available on the ARC website (http://www.arc.gov.au/ncgp/lief/lief_certification.htm) to assist in meeting the requirement of obtaining written evidence of agreement of parties. However the use of the ARC proforma is not mandatory and each institution may provide its own proforma. Investigators at UQ involved on bids being submitted through other institutions should seek advice from that institution on their requirements for certification.

Certification of the organisation (for UQ) is undertaken by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research). The template from the Administering Organisation must be provided to Nic Shively (email to n.shively@research.uq.edu.au or dropped off to R&ID, Bld 72) by Wednesday 4 April 2012 to enable the institutional signature to be obtained.  A copy of the form signed by the UQ CIs must also be provided.
