 Australian Laureate Fellowships

The Australian Laureate Fellowships scheme reflects the ARC's commitment to supporting excellence in research by attracting world-class researchers and research leaders to key positions, and creating new rewards and incentives for the application of their talents in Australia. This highly prestigious new scheme replaces the ARC Federation Fellowships program.

Up to 15 Australian Laureate Fellowships may be awarded for funding commencing in 2009. Preference will be given to researchers who will play a significant, sustained leadership and mentoring role in building Australia's internationally competitive research capacity.

The UQ application process will be coordinated through the Office of the DVC (Research), in conjunction with the Deputy Director of the Research and Research Training Division (RRTD). Given host institutions are required to guarantee a professorial (Level E) salary for the Fellow, UQ’s institutional cash support will need to be negotiated.

UQ nominations should be forwarded to Professor David Siddle. Nominations should be made in electronic format (with a copy to Nicole Thompson in RRTD) and include:

  •   an up-to-date CV of the nominee; and
  •   a brief supporting statement from the Associate Dean Research or Institute Director as to the strength of the candidate and the alignment of their research with existing or emerging UQ research strengths.

Approved nominees will be invited to prepare a full Australian Laureate Fellowship application for an internal closing date of 17 November 2008.

Any queries about the nomination process may be directed to Nicole Thompson in RRTD (n.thompson@research.uq.edu.au). The 2009 Funding Rules may be downloaded from the ARC website at http://www.arc.gov.au/ncgp/laureate/fl_fundingrules.htm
