GENIUS (Global Expertise Network for Industry, Universities and Scholars) is a facility which will allow individual researchers to enter their research interests, categorised by the keywords within SPIN, developing a personal profile of research interests. GENIUS can also build on this profile and allow researchers to enter a comprehensive set of information about their research expertise is a global WWW network and database of scientific and scholarly expertise.
GENIUS profiles are maintained by individual scholars and provide global recognition to participants and serve as a registry of institutional talent and provides researchers with a resource for locating potential research partners/collaborators. GENIUS also provides industry with a resource for locating potential research partners.
The GENIUS database can be searched through the UQ Library subscription.
SMARTS (SPIN Matching And Researcher Transmittal System) is an automatic matching service using the information contained within the GENIUS profile against the SPIN database. Whenever a funding scheme is updated on the SPIN system, the keywords associated with that scheme are cross-checked against the researcher profiles in SMARTS. If there is a match, then the researcher is automatically sent a targeted E-mail notifying them of the opportunity.
There is a guide to using GENIUS/SMARTS available:
