 AEC Committees


The University of Queensland has 6 Animal Ethics Committees (AECs).  Each committee is dedicated to a specific type of research and/or teaching.  The committees are duly constituted as required by the Animal Care and Protection Act (2001) and the Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes 7th Edition.
The following outlines the different committees, Terms of Reference and closing dates for submissions.

NB: Where projects involve the use of wildlife, regardless of UQ location, these will be redirected to the Native/Exotic Wildlife and Marine Animals (NEWMA) Ethics Committee – please check under NEWMA below for submission dates.
 
NB: The possible relevant units are a guide only. Each committee inspects various animal houses and the default position for consideration of the application is to the AEC that inspects the relevant animal house rather than the location of the CI. Please do not hesitate to contact the AWU for further information.

University Animal Ethics Committee (UAEC)

The UAEC is the main Animal Ethics Committee of the University of Queensland and oversees the functioning of all of the peripheral AEC's.  It formulates and develops all policies relating to the use of animals for scientific purposes at the University of Queensland .  It does not consider ethics applications unless these are referred to them by a peripheral committee.  If you have business for this Committee the following closing dates apply.
