Round Status: OPEN

The ARC Linkage Projects (LP) scheme supports research and development which is collaborative between higher education researchers and partner organisations including industry, to further national innovation and acquisition of new knowledge. From 1 July 2016, the ARC Linkage Projects round has been open for continuous submission of applications. UQ is supporting the continuous round via a hybrid model of major intake dates and continuous processing, to support pipelines of high quality Linkage Projects applications.

The ARC’s objectives of the Linkage Projects scheme are to:

  • support the initiation and/or development of long-term strategic research alliances between higher education organisations and other organisations, including industry and other research end-users, in order to apply advanced knowledge to problems and/or to provide opportunities to obtain national economic, commercial, social or cultural benefits
  • provide opportunities for internationally competitive research projects to be conducted in collaboration with organisations outside the higher education sector, targeting those who have demonstrated a clear commitment to high-quality research
  • encourage growth of a national pool of world-class researchers to meet the needs of the broader Australian innovation system
  • build the scale and focus of research in the national Science and Research Priorities.

Updates on the continuous ARC Linkage Projects round:

The call for applications under the continuous ARC Linkage Projects round opened on 1 July 2016, with the LP17 round opening on 23 December 2016. The continuous Linkage Projects round allows for applications to be submitted to the ARC at any time of the year, supporting increased engagement with industry partners.

In order to support the development of high quality Linkage applications in a flexible submission model, UQR&I will have three major internal intake dates for LP submissions. There will be a 2½ week processing turn-around in these intakes for submission to the ARC.

UQR&I will also support proposals submitted at other times via continuous application processing, with a 2½ week processing turn-around. In other words, UQ will adopt a hybrid processing model.

Funding Rules, Instructions to Applicants and other ARC documentation for 2017 applications have been published on the ARC website. Please note that C4 is a new question requiring applicants to list each objective of the proposed project. This information will be used for future reporting purposes if the Proposal is funded.

UQR&I will be coordinating a series of workshops and information sessions to assist the UQ research community in in preparing and submitting Linkage Projects applications under the continuous round model.
  • Step 1: Join the UQR&I Mailing List. Official announcements and UQR&I updates regarding the scheme will be sent via the Mailing List.
  • Step 2: Familiarise yourself with the key UQ and ARC documentation (see below).
  • Step 3: Obtain Access to the ARC’s Research Management System (RMS 2.0). Start early if any team members are new to RMS and need a login/password.
  • Step 4: Update your full profile in RMS ‘My Details’.
  • Step 5: Complete the application in RMS.
  • Step 6: Lodge the application to UQR&I for Internal Review
    • Ensure all online components are complete/valid, then ‘step-through’ each and save.
    • Generate a whole Proposal PDF. This is found near the top of the ‘Draft Proposal Summary Page’. An e-mail is sent to you by RMS once the PDF is available.
    • Select ‘Submit Proposal to Research Office’ in RMS to e-submit the application.
    • Lodge your completed UQ Funding Application Coversheet to UQR&I. This is needed to initiate internal review of your application.
    • Also provide completed ARC/UQ Certification Proformas and where relevant, Requests Not to Assess.
  • Step 7: Internal review by UQR&I/feedback provided (compliance/eligibility/strategy).
