Research education
The University of Queensland Graduate School promotes graduate study, fosters intellectual and professional growth and develops initiatives to enhance the experience of research higher degree (RHD) candidates. UQ offers two Research Higher Degrees: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil). The PhD takes approximately 4 years and the MPhil 2 years to complete.
Professor Zlatko Skrbis is Dean of the Graduate School and chair of the Research Higher Degrees Committee.
The UQ Graduate School's goals are to:

- Produce excellent educational and employment outcomes.
The School strives to:
- Maintain and build on UQ's high standards of supervision.
- Co-ordinate and initiate high-quality, practical research skills training to prepare graduate students for professional careers.
