Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) support excellence and innovation in research in the field of type 1 diabetes through striving to advance the level and impact of type 1 diabetes research in Australia. For this round there are three travel grant categories available: (1) Early-stage researcher travel grants – no more than five years post-doc; (2) Mid-career researcher travel grants – with no other access to travel funding; and (3) Allied-Health/Nursing travel grants – professionals or students. The applicant must be committed to the mission of JDRF to prevent, treat and cure type 1 diabetes and its complications, and demonstrate relevance to one of JDRF’s therapeutic areas: Beta Cell Therapies, Immune Therapies, Complications Therapies or Glucose Control.

Overview

Eligibility
• Currently working at an Australian institution;
• Australian citizens or permanent/temporary residents currently residing in Australia;
• Engaged with Australian Diabetes research for more than 12 months; and
• An early-career researcher not more than 5 years post-doctoral, or a mid-career researcher with no other access to travel funding
• Allied-Health applicants who are allied-health practitioners must apply for the Allied-Health/Nursing Travel Grants as opposed to the Early-stage career grants.

Funding
Funding is up to $2000 for domestic travel and up to $4000 for international travel. Travel must occur after the 18 September 2019 and before the next round’s deadline (28 February 2020 to be confirmed).

Eligible Expenses
Eligible expenses include:
• travel cannot exceed $2000 for domestic travel in Australia
• travel cannot exceed $4000 for international travel

Overheads
Indirect costs/overheads are not funded by this scheme.

How to Apply

Step 1. Completing the application
Please see https://jdrf.org.au/research/research-grants/ for further information and to download the application form, noting the application requires a letter of support from the applicant’s supervisor commenting on the benefits of the travel for the applicant. For Mid-career researchers, an additional letter of support is required from their institution, stating that the institution does not provide travel funding to mid-career researchers.

Step 2. UQ R&I internal review and feedback
For UQ R&I internal review and feedback, email your application and completed Funding Application Coversheet to your UQ R&I Office of Sponsored Research RAO. UQ R&I will provide Institutional Research Administration Office certification following review of the application.

Step 3. Final submission
Applications must be submitted by UQ R&I as one document in PDF format to travelgrants@jdrf.org.au, using the naming convention of “Surname_Firstname_Early-Stage/Mid-Career/Allied-Health.pdf” (as appropriate).
