The Garnett Passe and Rodney Williams Memorial Foundation (GPRWMF) supports Australasian performance in the field of otolaryngology, head & neck surgery. GPRWMF supports training and development of clinicians and scientists, supports scientific research in new products and technologies in the field, and ensures these are translated into clinical practice and by bringing clinicians and scientists together around common problems and solutions.

Overview

Aims
The Garnett Passe and Rodney Williams Memorial Foundation (GPRWMF) Clinical Research Grant supports Otolaryngologists, Head and Neck Surgeons and accredited surgical trainees in OHNS in building research capability and undertaking research projects with relevance to clinical application, through the provision of funding towards the employment of a part-time research assistant, research nurse or graduate student.

Eligibility
• Applicants must be involved in clinical/surgical practice and have a record of clinical/surgical achievement
• Applicants must be a member of the Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgeons or the New Zealand Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgeons, or an accredited surgical trainee
• Applicants must demonstrate a limited research component to their career to date i.e. not have major research experience, nor have received major funding for research activities (for example, Applicants cannot have been a primary investigator on a competitive grant) and must demonstrate limited research support from external sources at the time of application
• Applicants must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or an Australian or New Zealand Permanent Resident
• Co-Investigators must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or an Australian or New Zealand Permanent Resident
• Please note: all funding is contingent on the continuing employment of the CIA at the Administering Institution over the term of the Award.

Funding
The duration of the GPRWMF Clinical Research Grant is up to 2 years, with funding of $50,000 per annum, all inclusive.

Eligible Expenses
Eligible expenses include:
• Employment of a Research Assistant, Research Nurse or Graduate Student (this must be at least 80% of project costs)
• Consumables, equipment and patient-related costs directly related to the research project.

Overheads
Indirect costs/overheads are not funded by this scheme.

For UQ R&I internal review and feedback, email your application and completed Funding Application Coversheet to your UQ R&I Office of Sponsored Research RAO.

Please note that certification of the Terms and Conditions by Head of School and Office of Sponsored Research Director is required for application, so please contact your UQ R&I Office of Sponsored Research RAO as early as possible to ensure appropriate approvals can be obtained.
