Partnership for Clean Competition Research Grant Program
Sponsor: Partnership for Clean Competition
Closing Date: 01-Nov-2019
The Partnership for Clean Competition (PCC) contributes to a movement in addressing doping’s root causes and ultimately decreasing the use of performance-enhancing drugs by all participants in all sports at all levels of play. The Grants program is open to scientist and researchers worldwide and proposals are accepted three times per year (Pre-Applications: March 1, July 1, and November 1; Applications: April 1, August 1, and December 1).

Key Dates
Pre-Applications are due to UQ R&I:
18 October 2019, 15 February 2020, and 17 June 2020
Pre-Applications close with PCC: 1 November 2019, 1 March 2020 and 1 July 2020
Full Applications close with PCC: 1 December 2019, 1 April 2020 and 1 August 2020

Overview

Aims
The PCC Grants program will fund three project types: A Pilot project, a one year preliminary project; an Original Proposal, a novel project not previously submitted to the PCC; and a Re-submission for a previously submitted and not awarded project (see the guidelines for instructions in this case). With an emphasis on original work that focuses on improving existing analytical methods for detecting particular drugs, developing new analytical methods to test for substances not currently detectable, and discovering cost-effective approaches for testing widely abused substances across all levels of sport, the following areas of investigation reflect the PCC’s current research priorities:
• Developing methods of cost-effective testing to detect and deter the use of banned and illegal substances.
• Developing testing protocols to detect designer substances used for doping purposes.
• Improving existing analytical methods to detect particular drugs, ex. GH, IGF-1, EPO, hCG.
• Developing analytical methods to detect performance enhancing drugs not currently detectable.
• Longitudinal urinary excretion patterns, metabolism and dose-concentration.
• Critical reviews to support interpretation of laboratory data.
• Alternative specimens, (ex. oral fluid, dried blood/plasma spots) for testing.

Eligibility
All nationalities are eligible for funding.

Funding
The PCC states that there is no maximum limit on funding, however individual grants have ranged from USD$10,000 to USD$400,000. The duration of grants are not specified, however a pilot project of 1 year, is generally limited to 1 year and funding up to $125,000 USD.

Eligible Expenses
• Salaries/wages of essential personnel, including primary and secondary investigators, research assistants, post docs/students and other necessary staff and experts
• Consumables for the purposes of the proposed project
• Equipment for the purposes of the proposed project up to USD $50,000 (if itemised)
• Project specific and related publication costs
• Travel
• Consultants (if justified and with support of a letter of intent)
• Other miscellaneous costs, such as training costs, cross validation, substance security costs (for more detail see the Budget Blog; What Items Will (& Wont) The PCC Fund)

Overheads
The maximum rate of overheads allowed by the PCC for this scheme is 25%.

How to Apply
