REMINDER: Google.org Impact Challenge – UQ Call for Expressions of Interest
Sponsor: Google.org Impact Challenge
Closing Date: 06-Jul-2018
The Google.org Impact Challenge will award AUD $5.5M to Australian non-profit innovators and social entrepreneurs using technology to tackle the biggest social challenges in Australia and/or globally. A broad range of projects are eligible for funding in the categories of: Arts, Culture and Humanities; Education; Environment and Animals; Health; Human Services; and Other. Please see https://impactchallenge.withgoogle.com/australia2016 for the scope of Australian projects funded by this scheme in 2016.

Four winners will receive AUD $1M each in grant funding and support from Google. Six runners-up will receive AUD $250K each in grant funding and support from Google. Projects are expected to last from one to three years.

Because Google.org will accept only one (1) application from each institution, prospective UQ applicants are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to UQ Research & Innovation (internationalgrants@research.uq.edu.au) by Monday 18 June 2018 for consideration by a panel of senior UQ academics.

To submit an EOI, please email internationalgrants@research.uq.edu.au with the following:
• Details of investigator team, with either an abridged profile (approximately 200 words per CI) or for UQ researchers only, if preferred, a web link to their UQ Researchers profile
• One page description of the project, including:
- The problem being addressed (Approximately how many people are affected? How does the problem impact their lives?)
- How the project is different from existing solutions (What other approaches have been tried in the past? Why is this proposal better than what already exists?)
- Potential impact including geographic area of impact, how it will improve lives and/or provide economic opportunity
- How the project and its impact can be sustained beyond this grant.
• One page budget overview for a $250,000 grant and how the project would be scaled up for a $1,000,000 grant (budget amounts are inclusive of 10% overheads).
• Details of any IP considerations and confirmation that Google.org’s requirement that any intellectual property rights created with Award funds can be placed and widely disseminated in the public domain, free for any use.
