US Department of Defense – Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Research Program (TSCRP) – Exploration Hypothesis Development Award

The mission of the FY18 Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Research Program is to fund exploratory, pioneering, and transformative science that promotes discoveries in TSC, from mechanistic insights to clinical application, by supporting new ideas and investigators for the benefit of Service members, their beneficiaries, and the American public. The primary goal of the Exploration – Hypothesis Development Award mechanism is to pioneer transformative research that could lay the foundation for a new direction in the field of TSC. The studies supported by this award mechanism are expected to generate preliminary data for future avenues of scientific investigation.

Eligibility
• Investigators at all academic levels (or equivalent), including postdoctoral fellows, are eligible to submit applications.

Key Mechanism Elements
• Supports the initial exploration of innovative, high-risk, high-gain, and potentially groundbreaking concepts in the TSC research field.
• Projects involving human subjects or human biological substances is permitted; however, studies must be exempt under Title 32 of the Code of Regulations, Part 219.101(b) (32 CFR 219.101(b)) or eligible for expedited review (32 CFR 219.110 or 21 CFR 56.110).
• Preliminary data not required.
• Clinical trials not allowed.

Funding
• Maximum funding of USD $100,000 for direct costs. Indirect costs may be proposed in accordance with the institution’s negotiated rate agreement.
• Maximum period of performance is 2 years.
