The National Foundation for Medical Research and Innovation (NFMRI) has opened a call for Expressions of Interest for the 2018 General Round and the Infectious Diseases Round. Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to submit a full application.

Aims: To enable researchers to access research capability and capacity beyond their labs and institution to advance their biomedical discoveries and innovations.

Funding Details: The NFMRI call for Expressions of Interest is for funding for specific research projects rather than salaries. Although project costs may include a component for support staff, Chief Investigator salaries and scholarships will not be supported. The amount of funding awarded ranges from $145,000 to $265,000 for between 1-3 years duration, according to the NFRMI Grant portfolio category selected.

Eligibility: The Foundation supports biomedical, lab-based research projects that will lead to innovations such as drugs, devices, tools, therapeutics, vaccines, diagnostics etc.
• The Chief Investigator must be employed at an Australian research institution.
• The Chief Investigator may be an early to mid-career researcher.

The UQR&I internal deadline for submission of applications is close of business Thursday 15 March 2018.

Applicants should provide a completed application and signed Funding Application Coversheet to their UQR&I Office of Sponsored Research RAO in order to commence the UQR&I review process.
