Children's Hospital Foundation - Woolworths Nutrition-Related Health Services Research Grant Round

The Children’s Hospital Foundation in association with Woolworths are seeking to establish and deliver a program of nutrition research under the banner of the Woolworths Centre for Childhood Nutrition Research, which will act as a hub for innovative paediatric nutrition and public health research and aim to achieve a measurable impact on children’s health outcomes.

Aims: In the 2018 Woolworths Nutrition-Related Health Services Research Grant Round, the Foundation will be funding up to 5 Stimulus Project Grants and is calling for ideas at all maturity levels in the health services research (HSR) field that are relevant to childhood nutrition. Proposals integrating one or more of the following research themes identified by Woolworths will be highly regarded:
• Increasing fruit and vegetable consumption with measurable outcomes and impact
• Dietary requirements (i.e. food combinations) to maximise health outcomes at specific ages
• Impact of diet on brain development and learning, mood and mental health
• Childhood eating behaviours and habits (“picky eating”)
• Prevention and/or management of food allergies
• Role of diet on gut health and microbiome and how this affects children’s health
• Infant feeding

Funding Details: In this grant round, the Foundation is offering one-year grants which come with financial assistance of $80,000 as well as up to $20,000 to fund health services research support for the proposal.

Eligibility Criteria: The research must be health services research relevant to childhood nutrition and align with one or more of the research themes outlined above (Aims). Outcomes from the research project must:
• Demonstrate support for advancing CHQ strategies and priorities identified in the Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service Strategy;
• Benefit children’s health and the healthcare delivery provided by CHQHHS or other Queensland paediatric HHS’s including but not limited to:
- Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital
- Other Queensland Hospitals and Paediatric/Children’s Facilities
- Logan Hospital, Gold Coast University Hospital, Redland Hospital, Caboolture Hospital, Redcliffe Hospital, The Prince Charles Hospital, Ipswich General Hospital
- Child and Youth Community Health Services
- Child and Youth Mental Health Services
- Statewide Paediatric Outreach and Telehealth Services (Connected Care Program)
- Centre for Children’s Health Research

Proposals are for once-off funding and not to be used for operational, recurrent costs. Budget items must exclude capital works, infrastructure, indirect costs. Travel, telephone and computer costs cannot be funded unless justified to be directly related to the project.

Submission:
Applications are submitted through Smarty Grants. A Letter of Support is required from the Administering Institution for both the primary and secondary applicants. (A template is available on the CHF website.) The UQ Letter of Support will not be provided until an internal review of the application has been conducted. The UQR&I internal deadline for submission of applications is Wednesday 14 March 2018.

Applicants should provide a completed application and signed Funding Application Coversheet to their UQR&I Office of Sponsored Research RAO in order to commence the UQR&I review process.
