This is the first Call for Papers for the QUESTnet2009 conference which will be held at the RACV Royal Pines, Gold Coast, from Tuesday 7 July to Friday 10 July and is hosted by The University of Southern Queensland. This year's theme is Leveraging our Investment. Submissions close Monday 30 March 2009.

Sharing and repurposing network infrastructure to maximise its value to the sector requires a paradigm shift in our thinking. To enable this discussion QUESTnet 2009 will include a new K12 and Vocational Education and Training Stream to explore the opportunities for strategic collaboration and reuse of Higher Education network infrastructure.

QUESTnet 2009 will also feature an online virtual conference space to extend its reach internationally and to enable those unable to physically attend the conference to actively engage in discourse with presenters and attendees across the respective streams. The virtual conference will commence in early June 2009 and culminate with key QUESTnet presentations and joint interactive sessions throughout the three days of the conference.
Potential topics include:

In addition, do you have something of interest that doesn't fit the topics above? This could be an interesting case study, implementation of new technology or research in the field of telecommunications. Whatever it is, we would like to hear about it.
Speakers are encouraged from University, Vocational Education and Training, K12, Education, Research, Health, Government, Defence and Industry sectors. Scholarships are available to first time speakers from within the Education sector.

Format for Submission

Download this word document and complete the various sections. It includes:

The allotted duration for presentations is 35 minutes, including question time.  A formal paper is not required but we would expect to video all presentations and make the video available along with the PowerPoint material to delegates.
The word document explains how to upload your completed submission to easychair. For any queries contact the Program Committee Chair, Scott Sorley; email: qnet09prog@questnet.edu.au or phone: (07) 4631 2619.

Due Date
The deadline for normal paper submissions is Monday 30 March 2009.

As an incentive to new presenters, the Organising Committee is looking to provide a bursary to a limited number of speakers. To qualify, the presenter must work within the education and research sector and not have delivered a paper at any previous QUESTnet conference. The bursary will provide a contribution towards accommodation and registration. Papers submitted by candidates will be reviewed for suitability. Authors of papers who wish to apply for a bursary should clearly state this in their submission. You may be asked to provide a statement of eligibility.

The conference is hosted by The University of Southern Queensland supported by AARNet, CAUDIT, the Queensland University of Technology, and the University of the Queensland. AARNet is the Australian Academic and Research Network, CAUDIT is the Council of Australian University Directors of Information Technology, QUESTnet is the Queensland Educational, Science and Technology Network. The conference is an opportunity for delegates to meet their peers, develop their personal knowledge, exchange observations and experiences, and to gain an understanding of future network directions and developments.

Learning from colleagues in similar situations at other Australian Education providers has always been a valuable component of the QUESTnet conference. Please circulate this information to your colleagues and encourage them to participate.
Similarly for vendors and consultants; information about future technology is critical to managing advanced networks.
