Mohammed Al Musleh At Qatar Petroleum

Mohammed Al Musleh was one of our first PEPS students to carry out his placement overseas.
Mohammed was able to do his placement with his sponsor company, Qatar Petroleum, and he says that doing his PEPS semester overseas in his future company gave his university experience an extra dimension. “The program allowed me to broaden my technical and professional skills. I also had the opportunity to gain information on the diversity of career paths in the company which had a great impact on my career path planning.”
Mohammed’s project was a significant part of a larger design project for the company. In order to satisfy future gas demands at Qatar Petroleum, an offshore platform named North Field Alpha has to be upgraded to increase the gas production capacity.
“I was involved in the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) phase of the project. My role was to investigate whether certain existing systems and equipment in the platform are adequate to meet the required performance of the upgrade project. I also carried out a comparison, using process simulation, between Turbo-expander and Joule Thomson Valve at the upgraded conditions.”
Mohammed was based in the company offices in Doha, but was also able to take a trip out to the off-shore platform during his placement. He said, “My site-visit to the platform, which is located 80 km north east of Qatar Peninsula, was one of the most interesting experiences I have ever had.”
