 Choosing a project

Choosing a Project

The selection of a project area, finding something that is it pitched at the correct academic level, can seem a daunting task.  However, in reality it is usually sorted out very easily.  If you or your company does not have a specific project in mind, UQ staff can talk to you about isolating some of your courrent work commitments to form a project.  The project topic may be a stand-alone piece of work, or a smaller part of a large project.  Generally speaking, the student would be expected to work at a level just below that expected of a newly-graduated engineer.

Some examples of recent projects are:

  • Designing and implementing a brake testing system for coal trucks
  • Assessment of air conditioner loads
  • On-load Tap Changer acoustics monitoring
  • Pressure fluctuations through duct fittings
  • Optimisation of screw press for oil palm nuts
  • Brisbane CBD noise map development
  • Site water upgrade investigation
  • Underground cable thermal ratings
  • Optimising fuel costs and quality
  • Extending an electronic tagging system for cattle
