Chris Grainger at Bassett Acoustic Engineering
Chris Grainger, a final year Electrical Engineering student, took a PEPS placement at Bassett Acoustic Engineering. T
he company has funded the developments of a strategic noise map for the Brisbane City central business district and research into the nature of the propagation of sound throughout the study area.
"A strategic noise map is a method for presenting complex information on sound level in a clear simple way", said Chris. "This concept is relatively new to Australia but the importance of studies such as this is shown by the recent noise mapping projects throughout Europe. Many major European cities are required to prepare a noise map. This study will allow Brisbane to compare noise levels with other major cities."
Chris’ project involved building traffic and environmental noise models in two software packages. He added in actual measurements in the affected area, and compared the results obtained with theoretical forecasts.
