Where may I park my Motorcycle?
Motorcycle permits allow parking only in designated motorcycle areas. Motorcycles may not be parked in parking bays assigned for cars in any zone on all University sites. This condition applies at all times, not only during the hours of paid parking.
If you ride a motorcycle only occasionally, and usually drive a car to University, then the motorcycle details may be added to the motorcar parking permit - that is, an additional motorcycle permit would not be required.
For the purposes of the Paid Parking Scheme, all scooters - whether or not they are required to be registered with Queensland Transport - are treated in the same way as motorcyles.
Where are motorcycle areas located?
St Lucia Campus
At St Lucia, open-air motorcycle parking is available:
- near the Michie Building (8),
- adjacent to the Parnell Building (7),
- in Cooper Road (adjacent to Building 74), and
- at the lower end of Staffhouse Road (adjacent to both Buildings 47 and 48).
Undercover motorcycle areas are available:
- beneath the UQ Centre (27A),
- under the Warehouse complex (99),
- within Multi-level Carpark 2 (Building 98B), and
- below the Ritchie Laboratories (64A).
If you choose to park within the multi-level carpark motorcycle area, then you will need an access card to allow entry through the boomgates. A $20 refundable deposit is required before the card is issued.
Please note that the Purple and Yellow zone parking vouchers are valid in motorcycle parking areas. It is suggested that the rider writes his/her registration number on the voucher before displaying it on the bike.
UQ Ipswich
At UQ Ipswich, motorcycle parking areas are designated within Carpark 4 (off Parker Avenue), and in Carpark 2 (off University Drive). Please note that the Pink zone casual parking voucher is valid in motorcycle zones. It is suggested that the rider writes his/her registration number on the voucher before displaying it on the bike.
The Herston Site
A motorcycle parking area is located in front of the main building adjacent to the refectory and bookshop.
Turbot Street Site
A motorcycle parking area is available in the undercroft area at the Dental School with access from Turbot Street.
How do I obtain a Motorcycle permit?
To apply for a motorcycle permit please click here. After completing the form please deliver it by fax, e-mail, or by hand to UQ Traffic & Parking, where a customer service officer will process the application and issue the permit. Please ensure that all relevant sections are completed and signed. Incomplete forms will be returned to the applicant.
How do I pay?
Staff members should note that in 2008, for the first time, payment by payroll deduction for a motorcycle permit will be available. Unfortunately, the ATO guidelines are not clear as to whether or not the parking fees for motor bikes can be salary packaged - referring explicitly to "car parking". When the University has received a ruling on the issue all staff motorcycle permit-holders will be contacted to confirm their preference.
Otherwise, payment may be made at the UQ Traffic & Parking office in Multi-level Carpark 2, by cash, credit card, or eftpos.
