Vice-Chancellor's Welcome
Congratulations on joining a university with an international reputation for being one of Australia’s best. You are a new student for a new century, as UQ celebrates its centenary in 2010, and will invite students to be part of activities that will help set the tone for the future.
During your time at university you will encounter some of the nation’s most outstanding lecturers and tutors, who have achieved more teaching awards than staff of any other Australian university. Their work is informed by the latest research, so the knowledge they share with students is cutting edge.
Orientation will introduce you to staff and other students, and enable you to explore UQ’s vast range of social, cultural, sporting, recreational and student support services.
To access the full range of online academic, administrative and information services, go to your student portal at http://my.uq.edu.au .
I wish you every success with your studies and urge you to enjoy all that UQ has to offer.

UQ is continually upgrading its facilities and is constantly innovating, for instance by establishing Australia’s first Office of Undergraduate Education, initiating new scholarships, and introducing Summer Research opportunities for undergraduates.
We are also forging stronger links with employers, with the aim of improving student internship and career prospects, including opportunities to study and gain work experience overseas.
Orientation will introduce you to staff and other students, and enable you to explore UQ’s vast range of social, cultural, sporting, recreational and student support services.
By enrolling at UQ, you have also joined a network of more than 180,000 alumni, who include potential friends, contacts and employers from all over the globe.
